Educational Sessions

Attendees must wear a name badge for admittance to all convention sessions.

The convention registration fee includes admission to the keynote address, all special and featured sessions, and nearly 1,000 reviewed presentations (mini-skills, papers, posters, and symposia.) NASP members can view the entire list of educational sessions via the Personal Convention Planner. (Additional fees are required for optional NASP Convention Workshops and certain special events, as indicated on the registration form.)

Mini-Skills Presentations

These in-depth sessions are designed to teach participants specific skills, such as research proficiencies, counseling techniques, or specific assessment methods. Each session is 1 hr 50 min. long, allowing for comprehensive presentations and ample time for questions and answers.

Paper Presentations

A variety of NASP convention attendees will be presenting papers on a broad range of topics related to the profession of school psychology, including innovative practice, research, program evaluation, data-based practice, and other areas of interest. Each session is scheduled for 50 min. and includes time for questions from session participants.

Poster Presentations

Poster presentations are visual displays that provide an informal, interactive format for the presentation of research, data, and innovative practices. Multiple posters are displayed concurrently during each 80-min. poster session. Posters on related topics are presented during the same session. Participants can read one, several, or all posters during the 80-min. sessions and discuss the posters with the authors.

Participant Information Exchange (PIE) Sessions

Again this year, Participant Information Exchanges (PIEs) will be part of the NASP convention poster sessions. In PIEs, presenters sit at round tables with a small group of interested participants. They briefly present on their topic for 10–15 min and then engage participants in a structured discussion of their work and its application, using a list of discussion questions. Participants will be able to move from table to table or sit and interact with the group at a single table. Five PIEs will be scheduled during each poster-session time frame. PIE presenters will be solicited from among approved poster presenters.

Symposia Presentations

Symposia include three or more papers on a common theme. Presented together, they provide several views on a single topic or issue. Following the presentations, a discussant provides reactions to the papers presented. Ample time for questions from participants is available during the 80-min. time blocks allocated for symposia.

Special Sessions

Special sessions are sponsored by NASP leaders, workgroups, and committees to address specific projects and priorities of the association. This year’s special sessions include a wide variety of presentations. Please note that, unlike mini-skills, papers, posters, and symposia, the content of special sessions was not reviewed through the masked review process. Special sessions are scheduled for 50- or 80-minute time periods and include time for questions from session participants.

Advanced Sessions Offering NASP-Approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Credit

The Chicago convention will include a strand of sessions on a variety of subjects specifically designed for advanced practitioners. Attendees of these CPD sessions will be eligible to receive a certificate of attendance documenting NASP-approved CPD credit. The NASP-approved CPD sessions count toward the new NCSP requirement of NASP-approved credit for a portion of renewal CPD. This is an added value, as the NASP-approved CPD sessions are included with your convention registration!
