MS121: Students who Self-Injure: School-Based Strategies Based on DBT

Friday, February 15, 2013 8:00 AM–9:50 AM

This presentation focuses on self-injurious behavior, factors contributing to its increase among adolescents, and how to differentiate it from suicidal behaviors. Strategies for conducting risk assessments and school-based intervention strategies, based on dialectical behavior therapy and its foundation in biosocial theory, will be included. Case studies will guide the examination of legal and ethical responsibilities of school psychologists, as well as strategies for writing goals and objectives for the development of adaptive coping skills.
