WS21: The Developmental Course of Autism Spectrum Disorder Impacts Intervention Selection

Thursday, February 14, 2013 8:30 AM–11:30 AM

This workshop will describe the evolution over time of symptoms in children with autism spectrum disorder through a review of the research literature and case presentations. The speaker will show how the concepts of bottom-up and top-down instruction can be used to match the child’s ability to the most appropriate teaching methods. The neurological basis for maladaptive behaviors in the classroom in children with ASD, and the optimal responses to these behaviors, will also be reviewed.
