Description:
The objectives of this workshop are to enable participants to
- identify unique cultural, linguistic, and experiential factors that affect English language learners’ (ELLs’) achievement;
- identify appropriate screening and progress monitoring tools;
- set appropriate yet rigorous goals for ELLs; and
- provide appropriate instruction and interventions for ELLs.
Presenters will discuss the importance of students’ linguistic and cultural backgrounds, an overview of second language development, and factors that affect students’ learning. Research on screening, progress monitoring, and instruction and interventions within an RTI framework will be reviewed and explicit recommendations provided.
