Description:

Compelling evidence shows that effective screening and use of progress-monitoring tools in math and reading can identify struggling learners and determine whether students are benefiting from instruction or targeted interventions. Less information is available regarding evidence-based assessment and instructional strategies in written expression.

This workshop is intended to provide valid and up-to-date information on curriculum-based measures of writing and the instructional strategies designed to improve the writing skills of pre-K–12 students. At the conclusion of the workshop, attendees will be able to

• explain how to implement best practice methodologies in the use of screeners and formative assessments of written expression at all grade levels and
• identify evidence-based instructional techniques and interventions in written expression.
