DS08: Individual Counseling With LGBTQ Students: Ethical and Affirmative Practices

Affirmative counseling strategies can help support LGBTQ students experiencing difficulties. These strategies include supporting identity development and disclosure, and managing discrimination and homophobia. Additionally, by adhering to professional and ethical mandates, school psychologists can be advocates for LGBTQ students and work to educate others about harmful practices such as reparative therapy.
