DS003: Damaging Assumptions: Avoiding Your LGBTQ, Gender, and Cultural Blind Spots

Learn to recognize and challenge heteronormativity and sexism in schools, and how sexual orientation and gender expression can significantly influence student outcomes. Speakers will present personal counternarratives and prompt participants to evaluate their beliefs, assumptions, and self-positioning of societal privileges. Participants will learn advocacy strategies to respond to social inequalities. This session is cosponsored by the Convention Committee and the Committee on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) issues.
