African American students experience pervasive disparities in academic outcomes across all areas of schooling. Results presented from this study shed light on factors impacting achievement among African American adolescents by examining relationships between school racial climate, engagement and academic outcomes. This presentation aims to increase awareness among school psychologists about the implications of norms and values placed around race and interracial relations within the school environment for the purpose of creating culturally sensitive school environments.
